Panoramas with a horizontal field of view (FoV) of 360° and a vertical FoV of 180° are called spherical, or more accurately, cubical panoramas.  This is because suitable viewers, such as the Spi-V engine that Tsi endorses, project these images onto the six insides faces of a cube.

Cubical panoramas are ideal when there is something interesting for the observer to see looking upwards or downwards.  They are also quite effective in creating space in tight places.

360 x 180 images are best viewed in full screen mode.  Click on the photo here to see for yourself!  Many more examples can be seen in the galleries.

In addition, the cubical images can be amazingly creative or even marvellously bizarre when printed out flat.  These equirectangular images can have interesting curvature, like almost all 360° panoramas, plus quite a bit of distortion in the upper and lower sectors, as the pixels at the zenith (top) and nadir (bottom) are stretched out over the width of the image.

Tsi specializes in all aspects of cubical panoramic photography, from the planning stage to web integration to Fine Art Giclée prints.  Please write us for more information!
